General Motors is exploring an entry into the UK defense market through a bid for a £900 million military contract. The project requires building thousands of new 4x4 vehicles for the British armed forces. These trucks will replace an aging fleet of Land Rovers.
The military will use the new vehicles for reconnaissance, patrol, and logistics missions. GM plans to manufacture Chevrolet-based trucks in the United States. These units will then undergo specialized military modifications within the UK.
This move follows a trend of automakers capitalizing on increased defense spending by NATO countries. First deliveries for the new fleet are scheduled to begin in 2030.
