GM bets $3 billion on V8 engines, extending production into 2030s

General Motors is investing $3 billion to produce its small block V8 engine into the 2030s.

This funding is part of a $7 billion allocation for engine and transmission facilities in the United States and Canada.

The sixth-generation V8 will power upcoming trucks, SUVs, and performance models like the Chevrolet Corvette.

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra will be the first vehicles to feature the new engine.

GM projects the updated powerplant will deliver improved performance and efficiency.
