General Motors is indefinitely delaying its next-generation full-size electric truck program, according to Crain's Detroit Business. The project included the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado EVs originally scheduled for a 2028 launch.
Suppliers for the lower-cost electric truck program reportedly received notice that the project is halted without a new timetable. This strategic shift follows a period of slowing electric vehicle sales.
GM is now expected to develop plug-in hybrid versions of the Silverado and Sierra. The company currently offers no hybrid vehicles in the U.S. but previously stated it would reintroduce the technology to its lineup.
GM officially responded that it does not comment on speculation regarding future product plans.
