General Motors eliminates over 700 jobs at its Oshawa Assembly Complex in Canada.

The company cuts the third shift dedicated to Silverado production. The Unifor union warns this action will cause hundreds of additional job losses across the automotive supply chain.

Unifor heavily criticized the decision. The union states GM rejected a proposal to maintain the shift until contract negotiations in 2026.

Unifor National President Lana Payne accused GM of caving to trade pressures rather than supporting its Canadian workforce. Payne links the job cuts to a prior production increase at a U.S. plant following tariff impositions.
