The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a recall query into approximately 597,571 General Motors vehicles. The affected vehicles feature the L87 6.2L V8 engine.
The action follows 36 reports from owners alleging engine failures. These failures occurred even after vehicles were serviced under a prior recall.
GM initiated the original recall in April 2025. That campaign addressed issues with connecting rod and crankshaft components.
The investigation impacts 2021–2024 models, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, and Yukon.
The probe raises questions about the effectiveness of GM's initial fix. The federal inquiry suggests the underlying engine problem may be more significant than the original recall addressed. It could potentially lead to a more extensive and costly recall campaign.
