General Motors is indefinitely delaying its next-generation full-size electric truck program originally scheduled for 2028. This decision halts future development for the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Hummer EV, and Cadillac Escalade IQ beyond current models.
The company is responding to slower-than-expected EV sales and significant financial writedowns within its electric division. GM is now redirecting resources to develop a new family of V8 internal combustion engines.
The automaker will also introduce plug-in hybrid options for its popular Silverado and Sierra pickups. This strategic pivot aligns production with current market demand for gasoline-powered trucks while maintaining a long-term commitment to electrification.
