The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a query into approximately 597,571 General Motors vehicles over engine failure issues. The probe specifically targets vehicles equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 gas engine. The agency received 36 complaints from vehicle owners alleging engine failures occurred even after a previous recall was performed.
The investigation follows a recall GM issued in April of the previous year for engine-related problems. That initial recall covered 721,000 vehicles worldwide, with nearly 600,000 of those in the U.S. The safety regulator is reassessing the situation because the new complaints suggest the initial recall remedies may not have been effective.
