Major social media platforms including YouTube, TikTok, and Meta's Facebook and Instagram have all declined to run paid advertisements for "Musk," an upcoming documentary about Elon Musk from director Alex Gibney. The platforms reportedly cited violations of their policies against "political content" as the reason for the rejection, a move that surprised the film's distributor, Bleecker Street.

The trailer for the documentary, which is set for an October 9 theatrical release, apparently contains a brief scene from a 2024 political rally and a reference to the election. Bleecker Street has appealed the decisions. Meta has already denied the appeal, while YouTube and TikTok are reportedly still reviewing the request. X, which is owned by Musk, has also reportedly refused to engage with the distributor about running ads for the film or any of its other upcoming releases.
