Twenty-six former and current employees filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms in the Northern District of California. The suit alleges the company used an artificial intelligence system to unlawfully target workers for layoffs.

Plaintiffs claim the AI model disproportionately selected employees who requested or took protected leave for pregnancy or medical conditions. The system allegedly penalized staff for time away from work by focusing on specific productivity and performance metrics.

The lawsuit argues these terminations violate the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. A Meta spokesperson denied the claims, stating that human managers made all workforce decisions rather than AI.
