The European Commission is preparing a formal statement of objections against Anglo American’s sale of its Brazilian nickel business to MMG Ltd. This move escalates the regulatory review of the proposed transaction.

Regulators opened an in-depth investigation in November 2025. The commission expressed concerns that MMG could redirect ferronickel supply away from Europe and increase costs for stainless steel producers.

Anglo American maintains that the transaction poses no competition concerns and should receive unconditional approval. The companies extended the deal's long-stop date to October 31, 2026, pending final EU clearance.
