Chinese AI startup DeepSeek plans to deploy at least 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT AI accelerator chips. The company will install the hardware at a new data center in Inner Mongolia. This project will establish one of the largest known clusters of Huawei AI hardware to date.
The massive deployment highlights a shift toward domestic infrastructure amid U.S. export controls on Nvidia chips. DeepSeek previously relied on Nvidia accelerators for the training phase of its models. The new cluster will focus on supporting model operations.
