Z.ai completed a 1-gigawatt data center powered exclusively by Chinese-made chips. The facility has begun partial operations to train the company's proprietary GLM artificial intelligence models. This infrastructure allows Z.ai to bypass restricted high-end processors from suppliers like Nvidia.
The site currently operates several computing clusters. Each cluster contains more than 10,000 domestic chips. While Z.ai has not named a specific supplier, Huawei remains China's primary designer of AI accelerators. This development highlights China's capacity for large-scale AI infrastructure despite US export controls.
