SoftBank’s mobile unit is partnering with South Korean firms Cosmos Lab and DeltaX to mass-produce next-generation batteries.

Manufacturing will take place at SoftBank’s plant in Sakai, Osaka. The facility targets an annual output of one gigawatt-hour starting in fiscal 2027.

The initiative aims to meet the surging power requirements of AI services. The partnership leverages Cosmos Lab’s zinc-halogen technology and DeltaX’s high-density designs.

SoftBank will initially use the batteries for its own AI data centers. The company plans to expand sales to grid, industrial, and residential sectors. It targets over ¥100 billion in annual revenue from the business by fiscal 2030.
