OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly announced his cancellation of a long-standing reservation for the Tesla Roadster, citing a 7.5-year wait. In a social media post, Altman shared screenshots of his attempt to request a refund, which was met with a bounced email due to an apparently non-existent address. He expressed his initial excitement for the vehicle but stated that the extensive delay prompted his decision to cancel. The incident draws renewed attention to the significant production delays for the next-generation Roadster, which was first announced in 2017. According to Tesla's Chief Designer, Franz von Holzhausen, the earliest customers might receive the vehicle is by the end of 2027, assuming no further setbacks. As of now, neither Tesla nor its CEO Elon Musk have issued a public response to Altman's posts.
