Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company's fleet of robotaxis in Austin, Texas, is expected to double in December 2025. The announcement was made in a post on the social media platform X. This expansion builds upon the launch of the self-driving ride-hailing service in the city in June. The robotaxi service, which also operates in the San Francisco Bay Area, currently utilizes safety monitors in the vehicles. Musk has previously stated the company's goal is to eventually operate the robotaxis without safety drivers and expand the service to several other metropolitan areas.
