The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a nationwide public health alert on April 6, 2026. The alert affects 29-ounce bags of Walmart’s Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets.
Laboratory tests discovered lead levels up to five times higher than the FDA’s recommended interim reference level for children. Although the product is no longer available for purchase, the FSIS warns that consumers may still have bags in their freezers.
The agency urges consumers to either dispose of the nuggets or return them to Walmart for a refund. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to the contamination at this time. Investigators are currently tracing the source of the lead within the retailer's private-label supply chain.
