The Zambian government is pressuring billionaire Anil Agarwal’s Vedanta Resources to fund a dedicated power supply for Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).
This mandate adds an additional capital burden to the company’s planned $1.5 billion expansion of the facility.
Vedanta has not yet disclosed a specific financing plan for the significant investment required at the Konkola site.
The parent company currently remains focused on restructuring its capital and reducing existing debt.
Zambian officials intervened due to concerns that insufficient infrastructure and funding will prevent the mine from meeting production targets.
