Doosan Group has agreed to acquire 100% of SK Siltron. The transaction is valued at approximately 5.5 trillion won ($3.7 billion). It includes all stakes from SK Inc. and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won. This deal gives Doosan full control of South Korea’s only domestic silicon wafer producer. SK Siltron currently ranks as the world’s third-largest manufacturer in the sector.
The acquisition integrates upstream wafer manufacturing into Doosan’s existing substrate and testing businesses. This vertical integration aims to capture rising demand for advanced wafers used in AI and high-bandwidth memory (HBM). Doosan is transitioning into a comprehensive semiconductor materials and equipment provider through this move.
SK Group is divesting the unit to secure liquidity for investments in core AI and chip manufacturing sectors. Both parties expect to sign the formal stock purchase agreement by late May 2026. The deal represents a major consolidation within the global semiconductor supply chain.
