India secured ₹1 lakh crore (approximately $12 billion) in investment commitments under the Semicon 2.0 program. The government announced the initiative on the final day of the SEMICON India 2026 conference. These investments will materialize over the next three years.

The program aims to establish a domestic ecosystem spanning design, manufacturing, advanced packaging, and materials. This strategic push seeks to build a resilient supply chain and reduce reliance on foreign chip technology. The initiative focuses on capturing a larger share of the global electronics market.

Japanese firm Sumitomo Chemical signed an MoU with Tata Electronics to explore building a semiconductor materials facility. This project will support India’s first front-end semiconductor fab currently under construction by Tata.
