Intel joined Elon Musk’s $25 billion Terafab initiative on Tuesday.
The venture will construct the world’s largest AI chip manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas. This project collaborates with Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. The partners aim to reach an annual output of 1 terawatt of compute power.
The facility will utilize advanced 2-nanometer process technology. Intel will provide expertise in chip design, fabrication, and advanced packaging. The site targets an annual output of 100 billion to 200 billion custom AI and memory chips.
This move allows Intel to challenge competitors like TSMC and reassert market dominance. Analysts expect no immediate impact for IT buyers due to the project's long-term nature. The partnership generated positive market sentiment and validates Intel’s turnaround strategy as a foundry for AI and automotive players.
