Microsoft and OpenAI amended their partnership agreement to end exclusive cloud hosting. Microsoft remains the primary cloud partner, but OpenAI may now use any cloud provider. This shift allows both companies to scale AI platforms across the competitive market.
The revised terms make Microsoft’s license to OpenAI intellectual property non-exclusive through 2032. Microsoft will eliminate all future revenue-sharing payments to OpenAI.
OpenAI will continue revenue-sharing payments to Microsoft through 2030, subject to a total cap. Microsoft maintains its position as a major shareholder in the AI firm.
