OpenAI agreed to spend more than $20 billion over three years on AI servers from chip startup Cerebras Systems. The agreement includes a potential equity stake for OpenAI in the company.

This commitment doubles the scale of a previously known agreement between the two firms. OpenAI aims to secure massive computing capacity while diversifying its hardware supply chain beyond NVIDIA.

The partnership provides OpenAI with dedicated access to Cerebras' specialized chip architecture for training and operating large-scale models. This investment fuels competition in the AI accelerator market by supporting a direct NVIDIA rival.
