SoftBank, Sony Group, NEC, and Honda Motor established a new company to develop high-performance artificial intelligence. Each principal partner holds a stake exceeding 10% in the venture.
The initiative aims to create domestic AI to reduce reliance on technology firms from the United States and China. The firm will provide its advanced AI models to Japanese businesses.
The venture will apply for funding through the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) support program. This government initiative provides substantial long-term capital for research and development.
The company targets the development of physical AI to control robotics systems. Engineers from SoftBank and AI developer Preferred Networks will participate in the project.
