Malaysia Airlines is nearing an agreement to order approximately 10 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners. These aircraft will replace the carrier's current fleet of seven leased Airbus A350-900s. The deal reintroduces Boeing widebody jets to the airline's long-haul operations for the first time since 2016.
Boeing secured the lead by offering delivery slots starting in 2031. GE Aerospace also provided more favorable engine terms than Rolls-Royce, the exclusive supplier for the A350.
Malaysia Airlines previously evaluated the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 777X as potential replacements. The existing A350 leases are scheduled to expire early in the next decade.
