Elon Musk said xAI will integrate competitors’ models into Grok, departing from the industry norm of relying exclusively on in-house technology. The shift comes after billions of dollars invested in developing Grok as a challenger to companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI.

Musk said Grok will use the “best back-end model for any given task,” including Anthropic’s Claude 5.5 Opus, image generator Midjourney and AI music creator Suno. The strategy would make Grok a router that selects a model for each user request, with the aim of producing the best possible result.
