BYD officially launched its second-generation Blade Battery and Flash Charging technology on March 5. The system aims to reduce charging times to levels comparable with gasoline refueling.
The new technology enables a charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. A charge from 10% to 97% requires nine minutes. These performance metrics remain stable even in extreme cold conditions.
New charging stations support this speed by delivering up to 1,500 kW of power. This 1.5-megawatt capacity significantly exceeds the output of most current public chargers.
BYD plans to address infrastructure limitations by building thousands of proprietary Flash Charging stations. The company will also partner with third-party operators to expand the network.
The Blade Battery 2.0 features improved energy density. Certain models will offer a range exceeding 1,000 km on the CLTC cycle. This distance equals approximately 621 miles.
