Embraer received Type Certification from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 7, 2026. This approval covers the E190, E195, and fuel-efficient E195-E2 aircraft models. The certification allows Indian airlines to begin operating these specific E-Jet variants.
This move supports the Indian government’s UDAN scheme to expand air travel to smaller cities. E-Jets can operate from shorter runways unsuitable for larger narrow-body aircraft or turboprops. The aircraft enable airlines to establish new routes in the fast-growing Indian aviation market.
The new certification builds on the existing approval for the E175 model currently flown by Star Air. Embraer previously signed an agreement with Adani Defence & Aerospace to explore a domestic final assembly line.
