Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 4.4 million vehicles due to a software defect. This flaw can disable trailer lighting and braking systems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) traced the issue to the Integrated Trailer Module. This module may fail to communicate properly upon vehicle startup.

The recall impacts models produced between 2021 and 2026. Affected vehicles include the F-150, F-250 Super Duty, Maverick, Ranger, Expedition, Navigator, and E-Transit vans. The defect violates federal safety standards for lamps and reflective devices.

Ford reports no known accidents or injuries resulting from the defect. The company identified 405 warranty claims related to the problem as of early February. Ford will resolve the issue through an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Customers may also receive free repairs at authorized dealerships.
